Cooperative History Around the World

During the Industrial Revolution, which lasted from 1750 to 1830, the term "cooperative" first arose in Europe. People felt oppressed at the time because the government had imposed a capitalist economy. In this era, the majority of those who own the means of production act greedily, abusing the people by paying low wages and working long hours. This drives some communities to struggle for their rights, with the purpose of meeting some of its members' most fundamental needs.

Meanwhile, in England, this movement was started by Robert Owen, who is today known as the "Father of World Cooperatives" and the person who originated the phrase Cooperation, which means "to collaborate" in Indonesian. Owen operates a factory that strives to provide a good life for its employees by paying them well and limiting the number of hours they work per day. Furthermore, Owen consistently encourages his staff to collaborate.

This movement in France, which was pioneered by Charles Fourier, was based on the capitalist system of Fourier's concept known as the Phalanster. The working family can acquire their own dwelling, which they can use jointly, according to Fourier's proposal.

Cooperatives were originally formed to satisfy the demands of consumers in the United Kingdom, as stated in the opening paragraph. eoaclub.id was used as a source. The Rochdale Cooperative in England, dubbed the "world's first modern business cooperative," was the world's first cooperative. At first, the cooperative movement was just a collection of concepts, such as running businesses based on cooperative principles and providing consumer commodities like grain, wheat, sugar, and butter to suit people's everyday needs.

As the cooperative's capital increases, it will eventually be able to create things for sale on its own, perhaps creating jobs for members who do not already have occupations and increasing income for those who do.

Furthermore, on August 19, 1895, the "International Cooperative Alliance," or ICA, was founded in London, England, and the first cooperative congress was held there. Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, India, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia, and the United States were among the countries represented. ICA will continue to manage cooperatives around the world until 2022.
